Course Description: Vocal Music

 
Course Title: Concert Choir

Pre-Requisite: Only open to grades 9-12
This choir is a mixed-voice choir open to male and female students of all levels, ability, and experience. This choir will focus on musicianship fundamentals, vocal technique, 3 and 4-part singing, performance quality, and ear training. Performance demands for this group, although minimal, are a good preparation for the more advanced ensembles. Musical repertoire will include all styles ranging from classical to Broadway.
 
Course Title: Junior High Choir I
 
Pre-Requisite: Only open to grades 7-8
This is a mixed-voice choir open to students of all levels, ability, and experience. This choir will focus on musicianship fundamentals, vocal technique, 2 and 3-part singing, performance quality, and ear training. Performance demands for this group, although minimal, are a good preparation for the more advanced and high school ensembles. Musical repertoire will include all styles ranging from classical, and Broadway selections.

Course Title: Junior High Choir II  
 
Pre-Requisite: Audition Required
This is a high-energy, female voice, production choir consisting of auditioned students. These select students will need: good musicianship, good vocal tone, and good sense of pitch. The choir will focus on 3-part singing and proper choral etiquette within a performance. Musical repertoire will include all styles ranging from classical to Multilanguage concert, a cappella and Broadway selections.

Course Title: Madrigals

Prerequisite: Audition required
This course is for advanced vocal students who wish to continue and further their knowledge in choral and vocal techniques. Students will learn and demonstrate intermediate to advanced choral methods and pedagogy. They will understand and apply the elements of blending, harmonizing, intonation, tonal support, vocal consistency, and much more within the Madrigals choir. Furthermore, a broad selection of repertoire will be learned and performed introducing the students to different vocal techniques and genres.
It is expected that all Madrigals singers show appreciation for not only vocal and choral techniques but for musicianship and the theory of music.All students should have a knowledge in sight reading as well as music theory as it applies to vocalist. Students will be assessed through various performances, quizzes, and projects throughout the school year.

Course Title: Men’s Choir

Pre-Requisite: only open to grades 9-12.
Open to male students of all levels of ability and experience. This choir will focus on vocal technique, and 4-part singing and ear training. Musical repertoire will include classical, a cappella, and Broadway selections.

Course Title: Soloist Class I & II
 
Pre-Requisite: Only open to grades 9-12.
A course designed to teach and enable solo singing and performance. All students will learn basic fundamentals of performing, auditioning, preparing for a show, etc. The main focus will be to build a portfolio of repertoire that can be used in future auditions for college or performances. Students will focus mainly on classical technique with in incorporation of Classical, Broadway, and contemporary repertoire.


Course Title: Women’s Choir
 
Pre-Requisite: Only open to grades 9-12.
Open to female students of all levels of ability and experience. This choir will focus on vocal technique, and 3-4 part singing and ear training. Musical repertoire will include all styles ranging from classical to Multilanguage concert, a cappella and Broadway selections.
